Clerkenwell Design Week 2014

photo-2-

Every year we say that one day is never enough at Clerkenwell Design Week and this year was no exception. What’s more there would seem to be a growing number  of our suppliers setting up their showrooms in the area making the task even more difficult – we simply didn’t get the time to visit them all.

We started out at the Design Factory within the iconic Farmiloe building where numerous designers gather every year to showcase their furniture, lighting and product designs. We were particularly impressed with James Burleigh’s innovative bench desking and meeting room furniture collections which we have in mind for a current client. We were also interested by a unique acoustic wall system and the new Jennifer Newman collection of powder-coated aluminium furniture in vibrant colours which would be of particular use in the educational sector – adding a splash of colour to break-out zones.

Across the road at Bene’s showroom you can’t fail to be drawn in by their elegant, high quality pods and meeting room solutions.

We were pleasantly surprised to see that Elite have built on their product range moving into breakout and soft seating – they have a vast new range at seemingly reasonable prices. We will be studying their product guide with interest over the coming months with forthcoming projects in mind.

Boss’ showroom was busy! Their new meeting room chair (Toto) and stackable (Zandy) ranges exuded their usual style and intelligence and we loved the Lyndon configurable range ‘Us” combining timber and soft furnishing to create a flexible, quirky, boutique collection that would sit perfectly in any reception area. The much coveted Mr & Mrs chairs looked splendid in pale pinks and blacks and a favourite of the day the ‘cube’ styled sofa (lending from the work of Mr Rubix) will undoubtably be making an appearance in a number of proposals! A big thank you to Caroline for spending so much time familiarising us with the new products.

Orangebox were launching more than 140 new products at Clerkenwell this year so forgive me for not remembering all the names! Most interesting is their Network Landscape range which similar to Lyndon combines soft furnishing with timber to create a casual look and feel – favourite were the ‘deck chairs’
. Thanks to Giles who did a grand job in giving us a guided tour of so many new products and technologies – Orangebox continue to be seriously innovative – leaving us with much food for thought.

There were so many others that we wanted to visit Vitra, Humanscale, Screenworks to name but a few. Next year we will most certainly dedicate more than one day!!!!
