Heathrow T2 – prepared for take-off

T2blog2
Some months ago Metric won a competitive tender to secure the logistics/fulfilment contract for Heathrow Terminal 2. The contract was awarded to us by Carillion as part of the £2.5 billion refurbishment project, Metric being the natural choice of partner due to our vast experience in working in and around the airport and the fact that we have approved air-side access.
Over the course of these last months we have had a dedicated team of warehouse staff receiving and dispatching goods required for the fit-out of the terminal and a team of fitters based at the terminal itself installing and fixing the goods as necessary to complete the project in time for tomorrow’s opening.
It has been an enormous task which has been fraught with challenges along the way given the huge scale of the operation. We have been tested to the extreme but we are proud to have been a part of such a monumental project. The team most certainly delivered the extremely high level of customer service that Metric are renowned for.
Throughout the process we received ever stranger and more outlandish requests and found ourselves sourcing items such as guitar cases, golf bags, car seats and walking sticks as part of the numerous trials that have taken place over the last six months involving more than 14,000 volunteer travellers – there was never a dull moment.
We wish everybody at T2 every success when it opens tomorrow with its first flight – a United Airlines service from Chicago due to land just  before 6am tomorrow morning.
