Happy New Year from all of us at Metric!

We hope that you all enjoyed the festive period and that you are now back at work ready to fulfill all those new year resolutions!

One of the most popular resolutions in our office this year is to loose weight and get fit. Whether you were inspired by the 2012 London Olympics or quite simply looking to work off the excesses of the festive period there are a number of new office furniture products which enable you to do just that even now that we have returned to the sedentary office environment.

Spending too much time at your desk sitting (even if you do get the recommended 30 minutes a day of exercise) leads to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. This is a bold statement, but the reality is that our bodies simply are not designed to sit for extended periods of time. The solution to that is easy, just reduce the amount of time spent sitting still. Finding additional time in a hectic work day for more exercise can seem impossible so office furniture manufacturers have developed office desks which incorporate exercise machines – meaning that you get fit while you work! This way not only can you eliminate the inactivity in your workday but you will find that you will have an increase in energy as well as productivity.

One of these products is the Markant Oxidesk. It is a height adjustable desk which is attached to an exercise bike. Taking the principle one step further is the LifeSpan treadmill desk (pictured below). To stay healthy, it’s not necessary to exercise all the time. For most people half an hour a day will already be a giant leap forward. Therefore, just one Oxidesk or treadmill desk is enough to give 20 users the chance to work in a healthier way every day. You simply peddle or jog while you email.
