Team Metric beats the Beacon!

The journey started at 5am on Sunday 19th June. We dragged our way into the office where a cab whisked us off to Clapham Common for a 7am start. Conditions were just about perfect. The sun was shining and for the first time that week it was dry! We went off steadily through the streets of London wishing that the whole route were going to be this flat! Soon we were challenged by super steep inclines and some dramatic downhill drops. We stayed together as a team and quickly we were ticking off the miles. Before we knew it we had passed the half way point and our legs were feeling pretty good! Needless to say the going was to get much tougher!

Saddle soreness, leg cramp and aching shoulders started to set in and all the time in the back of our minds we knew that the biggest challenge was yet to come – the infamous Ditchling Beacon! A combination of frantic peddling and walking got us all to the top of the Beacon (the third highest point on the South Downs). We were elated to reach the summit, took a well earned break and then started our descent into Brighton.

The atmosphere en route was fun but the buzz at the finish line was just fantastic. Huge thanks to our support team who were waiting for us there.

We were tired and aching but we all agreed that we will be back next year!
