Well don’t …..!!
Did you know occupational sitting could shave years off your life? Sitting all day at work is bad for us – it is the new health equivalent of excessive smoking and drinking. It’s a health epidemic being referred to as ‘sitting disease’.
On average people spend more than 6 hours a day sitting at their desk an (in)activity which decreases a man’s life span by 20% and a woman’s life by 40%!
In the interest of our health the time has come to reject the idea that working hard means sitting at your desk for hours. Sit-stand desks are half of the answer but the emphasis should be placed on movement.
Movement is key to workplace health. By creating task specific areas in the office people are encouraged to move around and adopt a variety of postures over the course of a day; keeping employees on the move is vital to their health, productivity and creativity.
The office mantra should be Sit. Stand. Move. Repeat.
Did you know that we should all walk a recommended 10,000 steps a day but a sedentary person may only average 1,000 to 3,000?
Every hour you should try to walk around the office – even if it just down the hall and back! Why not try to conduct your meetings on the go! Walk and talk!
